Were there aftermarket hardtops made for '61 or are they all GM made?

There was an aftermarket top made, which is still available new, I believe. They do not look like the factory hardtop.

Plasticon, as well as other aftermarket manufacturers, offered hardtops for the C-1 and C-2 and possibly c-3 vets. By and large , they were inferior to that what was available from chevy. didn't fit well, were butt-ugly and leaked even worse that factory optioned hardtops. current values of such hardtops reflect their worth. mike

Plasticon still advertises their top. They are indeed butt-ugly. The only excuse for buying one is if you have a Vette with no top and don't want to spring the $2500-3000 that a useable top( hard or soft) will probably cost.

I appreciate the info. I'm going to look at a '61 and the guy said it had an aftermarket hardtop. I'm a C2 guy so I feel a bit like a fish out of water. It does have the softop as well so I suppose it's not a problem if the hardtop is junk. I have another question re the vin tag but I'll start another thread on that one. Thanks.
