Chrome bumper car bumper question.

I have a 71 coupe. I have been looking at every chrome bumper car I get to see and have made an observation. Each front left and right grill has a space between them and the verticle bumperettes. I am talking about the lower bumper frame of the grill where it aligns with the verticle bumper piece near the center license plate area. I hope you all know where I'm talking about. The point is this. I have rarely seen a car where the space between the left and right side of the car is the same. Most of the gaps are about 1/2 inch wide but I have seen wider and those that are more narrow. Rarely have I seen a car where the gaps are matched and close in spacing. Is there anyway to adjust the clearance (spacing) to get them the same (left-v-right) or closer together?

Your observations are identical to mine over the years. This is an aspect of early Corvette "quality control" that couldn't be described in stellar terms. But, that't the way it was. I'd even go so far as to say that if a car showed up with closely fitting bumperette joints, that could be considered non-original inasmuch it would certainly not be "typical of factory production".

I don't know of any practical way to adjust (and minimize) the gaps.
