    C2 seat head rests

I am considering installing head rests on the seats of my 67 coupe. I would like to hear from anyone who has installed head rests on C2's. Seats are original. Was installation difficult? Were head rests dealer installed? Are they comfortable after installation? Where do I get the best equipment? Will they look like factory installed when I am finished, considering I do it right. The installation of head rests for me is dictated by my wife's neck problems, including surgury. The head rests I have seen extend forward. I want to offer support for my wife but I don't want to put her in an uncomfortable position.

    Re: C2 seat head rests

I restored a 67 coupe in the 80'2 that originally had headrest(They were a factory installed option). The seat backs of an orig. headrest seat differ from the seat back of a non-headrest seat. There is no female bracketry in the non-headrest seat to accept the male headrest post so if you intend to use your orig seatback and it wasn't a headrest equipped vet, then you'll have to fabricate the female bracketry which won't be easy. What is easy is fabrcating the male post and the 1/8" plate that the foam and vinyl cover slips over. by the way, the foam and vinyl covers are available from al knoch. mike

      Mike,

------I may be wrong, but I think Al has the recievers as well. They may not look exactly the same as you never see them once they are on the seats, but hopefully, accomplish the same thing! The entire seat assemblys have to be pulled apart to facilitate the welding that has to be done, but thats really no biggie.
------As far as comfort goes,66 headrests are horrible,in my estimation. There is almost no comfortable position.Over the years I have seen a number of 66 headrest stems bent backward to be somewhat more comfortable.I know,I know,we are talking about 67 seats here and they are marginally better. You would be wise to sit in a 67 headrest seat car before you make up your mind.
------There are subtle ways to install the headrest recievers to give the headrests a more comfortable position, but its hard to describe in print. If you decide to go with the headrests E-mail me and we can get on the phone.I can tell you how if you have the pieces in your hands..........Bill S

The 67 headrest is very comfortable for me. The installation is fairly easy if you get the bracket kit. If you make your own brackets, you have to be more creative.

John, You asked "Will they look like factory installed when I am finished...". Al Knoch's reproduction 1967 headrests are close but not dead on. The reproductions have thicker padding and less of an arc than the originals. Good luck. Jim Weeks, Member #2978
