    GM push rod kits

    Hello all!
I'm gathering parts for my 69 383hot rod build up. Now I need a new set of hardened push rods to go with the new Edelbrock RPM heads. These heads have guide plates. GM has a couple of kits,12495491 std length and 12371057 100 over length. Can I use these with the guide plates? Will they hold up in a warmed over 383 with a mild-medeum solid roller cam? Max rpms would be 6500 Thanks Thad

The GM push rods would be fine, but they may not the correct length for the roller lifters that you're using. If your roller lifters specify stock length pushrods, then the GM kit will be fine. The pushrods which are supplied with these kits are hardened for use with guide plates.

Actually, I would recommend that you determine the exact length pushrod that you require after assembling the engine. Use an adjustable pushrod like those available from Comp Cams or Crane. Also, use a pushrod length checking fixture as available from Manley. Both of these tools are relatively inexpensive. With them, you can determine the exact length pushrod you require. Then, you can order these custom made by Comp Cams or Crane.

any time you buy a new cam buy the whole kit from the cam manufacture to get the correct parts and to prevent having trouble.
