    Re: Anti-Seize Compound For KO's

Dan - the anti-seize compound is a good idea to place on the nuts and threads, it is basically a grease compound with spherical glass beads, the beads create an effect sort of like many small bearings on the parts. The anti seize may actually give a more effective clamping as the effect of easier rotation is in essence applying more rotatinal movement of the nut at a given force (blow) of the hammer, basically applying more clamping force to the wheel. The compound will also make the nut much easier to remove later when you want to, even after long periods where the parts have not been separated...Craig

I use Permatex anti-seize on my K.O. As stated it will also act as a libricant. I noticed some "flaking" on my new set when just trying the spinner before installation.Don H.

I also thought Anti-Seize compound was the answer when I put my `62 together after a body-off. The only problem was a lot of the fasteners vibrated loose while driving out to Steamboat Springs and back in `96(?).

Having lost a spinner and wheel/tire at Interstate speed after i cleaned/lubrcated and violently re-installed the spinners 20 some years ago(they are orig K/O's without the pins common to the repro) i have since then used Loctite. Have l0 or so C-2s with K/Os and have never lost a wheel since abandoning lubrcants in favor of Loctite.Controversial subject to most members till you experience a wheel loss. my opinion. mike

Mike, You just didnt hit the thing hard enough! The problem with using nothing is the galling of the cone shaped mating surface. Antisieze will keep this from hapening. I have about 10K miles on the set I am running now with absolutely no problems and I will guarantee that they will not come off unless I want them off. I still say that people are afraid to hit the damn things. Remember the Bible says SPARE THE HAMMER SPOIL THE RIDE.

Guys...... Thanks for your help. I think I'll buy a set of repro bolt on's and be done with it..... K/O's seem to be absolutely horrible technology.......

I just install my new set of direct bolt on knock offs and love them. I never lost a spinner on real K.O. but had a friend lose one and part of the wheel lip. On the car you can not tell they are bolt on as they use the same spinner. Don H.
