    '64 Heater Box -- HELP!

I just removed the heater box from my '64 convertible. The old heater core has been removed and I am trying to clean up the pieces before reassembly. Here is the problem - the metal "cover" to the inside heater box, where the capaciter mounts, is not fastened with the 11 screws described in my shop manual. It is rivited together! Is this original? The date code on the cover leads me to believe it was produced in '64. Without removing the cover, I can't see how to really get at the dampers, remove the old seals and replace them.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The rivets are original. In order to rebuild the box and replace the seals you need to remove the rivets. A heater box rebuild kit, which includes seals and soft aluminum rivets, is available from Dr. Rebuild and other Corvette vendors. It is not very expensive.

Re: '64 Heater Box -- Seal Kit Installation

Thanks, Joe. I will try to get some replacement rivits from a local hardware store. Follow-up question: is any special adhesive necessary to in stall the seals? A couple in the kit have a selt-sticking back, but most do not and the originals appear to have used some sort of adhesive.
