    66 ac hose markings

Is there a source for correct AC hoses? I remember reading a post (can't find it in archives)about someone who can duplicate the markings on existing hose. I have purchased new barrier style hoses (may go to R-134a)which are blank and correct markings would be a nice touch.

if you know what you need(still have orig hose) take them to a local stationary store and have them make you up a samp or stamps to duplicate the origs. mike

Member Robert Wilson in Aiken, SC made some custom stamps to duplicate the original markings on his a.c. hoses because he could find no accurate reproductions.

He will probably sell you his stamps since his '66 has been completed. You can e-mail him through the Board profiles. This is not a "for sale" ad because I am not Robert.

        Randy,

Also note that the crimpings on your new hoses are likely of a different configuration than originals. So, while the stamps may help the appearance of the hoses, a knowledgeable judge may still be able to detect the difference.

Patrick - I'm interested in your comment regarding crimping. Will the original style AC hose worm gear clamps not work on the newer barrier AC hoses? Pete

              Patrick,
I plan on using the screw type clamps like original. I'm still not committed on the r12 vs. r134a issue but if I go R134 I'm told the screw type clamps will work, may leak a little but minor at the cost of R 134. I bought barrier hoses because they (Classic Auto Air in Tampa) said that's all they make now and they work with either choice of refrigerant.

                Craig,

Yep, my 70-72 hat. We haven't gotten far enough along in the 66 restoration for me to even think about the AC hoses. I knew the end at the compressor had a screw clamp, but I thought the other end was crimped on a midyear.

                Oh well. Nice try.

Patrick, I can relate. Also on the 66 restoration. I haven't even touched the body yet...just working on the engine so far. Now, if I was only independantly wealthy and didn't have to work for a living.....Craig
