    '57 Overheating

My '57 283/270 normally runs about 180o but when out on an Interstate doing 70 to 75 in 90o heat, it goes to 200o, when I exit the Interstate and get back onto regular roads, it goes back to 180o. My question, is this normal or is there a potential problem?......thanks

If you have no other signs of overheating, it sure does not seem like you have a problem. Many of us wish our cars stayed as cool as yours does.

Timing could be a little high or you might have a slight water flow problem. As stated before not enough to worry about.

Mine stays at about 180 with a 180 thermostat in the engine. To hit 200 the temp has to be over 100 degrees out side. Then again who says all of the temp senders or gauges are the same calibration ? Bob

          Rex:
My 283/245 1957 also gets hotter when driving on the interstate. I put in a new radiator and although it runs cooler (especially in parades) it still gets hotter at higher speeds. I think it is normal.
