    Hard start

68 Tripower 435hp gets warm and hard to start. Starts great when cold. Idles at 1000 rpm. Did idle at about 700 rpm. Is something stuck? Any ideas? Thanks

Simple if it's trying to turn over when hot it's a ground problem,to be sure add a heavy ground cable from a clean frame area to the engine block when HOT and if that makes it start then that's IT.

If you have headers and no heat shield on the starter motor solinoid then that is your problem. You would have to get a heat shield or a remote mount solinoid.

        Hi Ed,

I'm not certain if the problem you are describing is related to the engine having difficulties turning over, or does it spin but not fire up?

My '69 tri-power had problems starting when hot because it would flood. Check to make sure there isn't fuel leaking from the carbs down into the intake. If they are it is likily the metering plate/body that is warped and it should be machined straight and new gaskets installed This is what fixed mine.

        Thanks,
