I just started my corvette for the first time in 3 months. The car is a 1966 with the 427 motor. It started right up but smoked for about a minute out of the left (driver side) exhaust. It a white blue smoke. I drove for about an hour without any smoke. As I pulled it into the garage it started smoking again from the left side. I turned off the car, waited one half hour and re started it. There was no smoke. I checked the inside of the exhaust. The right side has dry black powder. The left side (where it was smoking) has black but it seems wet. I smelled it and it did not smell like gas or oil. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what could be causing the on again off again smoke. Thanks Joseph

Re: 66 corvette smoke
the orignal oil ring package used in the early big blocks was not the best as my brand new 65 and 66 big block corvettes used about 1 quart of oil every 600 miles.the fact you only see smoke out the one side could also mean that you have some valve stem seals leaking or worn valve guides and oil is running down the guides when you shut off the engine. big blocks had a problem with wearing out valve guides.- Top
