Dual quad metering rods for 2613 wcfb

Looking to find how to interpret the cross reference number stamped on the metering rods from a 58 dual quad 2613/2614 WCFB carbs and a supplier for swapping these out for a set larger in size to lean the carb out a bit. I have the number 1350 stamped on the metering rod.
Any help is welcome.

Clark,
1350 is the standard rod for your '58 2X4 system. One step leaner # is 1434, two steps leaner # 1435. I doubt if you'll be able to find these leaner rods anywhere. Might get lucky, who knows. Chuck Smith sells a 1358 rod for the '56 2X4 system which is a fatter rod (.067) in the ecomony section (second step) of the rod. Mike your rod above the first step. If your's is .003 or so smaller, the 1358 rod might be worth a try. Regards,

Thanks for the input. I'm not real clear on the staging sections of these rods but I was under the impression that the first stage at the base of the rod would contol the low rpm (idle) speed and the mid section is for high speed tuning. I know that at an idle I'm running too rich and was looking to attack that first. Not sure that the 1358 would help in my case if my assumptions above are correct.

Your right about the staging,rods are hard to find, you could find smaller jets from another make (car)or year wcfb then drill them out as a last ditch option.

make sure that you have the metering rods adjusted correctly. the larger diameter of the rod is what controls the low speed richness,the smaller diameter tip controls the WOT richness. the 245 HP jetting seems to work better for evry day driving

I think Jim has mentioned before that you can uses a lighter metering rod spring if your engine has low vacuum. That would allow the rod to pull further into the jet at idle and lean out the mixture. I do not recall if he said the WCFB metering rod springs interchange with the AFB springs which are easily available. Hopefully someone will enlighten us.

As Clem said check the metering rod ajustment, with the engine warm and runing and the linkage at the ideal stop.Remove the metering rod cover loosen the lock srew, push down on the rods and ajust the lever that rises the rods so that they just make contact.As you loosen the lock srew take notice to see if the rods are held down with the engine runing and if yes the vacumm if OK.Also check the rods on both carb.

you can do it without the engine running,loosen the rod stop adjustment screw, push down on the rods till they bottom out,then rotate the rod stop till it just touches the rod holder linkage and then tighten the screw. make sure that the idle speed screw on the carb is backed clear off so the butterflies are completely closed before making this adjustment. then reset the idle speed screws.

This is very good info. I will recheck the metering rod adjustments on both carbs per your suggestions to see where it's at.
