    power steering control valve rebuild

I have one apart from a 67 but have never rebuilt one. What all is involved? It doesn't look to be all that difficult, but I've been tricked before by something that appears simple.

    Thanks,

    Bryan-----

The procedure for rebuilding the p/s control valve is well-described and detailed in any Chevrolet Factory OVERHAUL Manual of, at least, the 60s or early 70s. If you are going to overhaul any components of a Corvette, you should have the OVERHAUL manual for reference.

The most difficult part of rebuilding the valve is balancing the valve off-the-car. Without an hydraulic test bench, it's impossible. That means that you'll have to balance the valve on the car. That can be tedious. Most professionally rebuilt or NEW valves are pre-balanced off-the-car.

You can take the easy way out at Bair's Corvettes in Linesville PA, rebuild yours or exchange. They did mine and I bolted it incentering was perfect. (814) 683-4223

I replaced one on a freinds car( don't remember who he purchased it from) and it took 5 to 7 test drives to tweak it in properly, wasn't hard. It wasn't even close to centered off the shelf.

sending it out would probably be the smart thing. Time to give Bair's a call.

          Thanks,

The trade off between sending it out and doing it yourself is cost and time. I did mine myself - followed the directions in the manuals - was a little tricky, but it came out leak free. I did end up replacing the ball-stud and seat which a rebuilder may not do. As long as you follow the shop manual directions for balancing as well (wheels off the ground), its not bad at all.

            Good luck!
