    '57 Grill Teeth

I disassembled my grill. The teeth are marked as follows:
one piece marked "C", cast #3706424; four pieces marked #1, cast #3706425; two pieces marked #2, cast #3706426; two pieces marked #4, cast #3706247; three pieces marked #5, cast #3706428 and one piece marked #6, cast #3706429. I'm sure there should be two #6's and two #5's. Should I have two #3's and only two #1's? Also, the grill oval, cast #3706432 is cracked and has two small screw holes drilled into the face. Any suggestions as to where I might have it repaired? Thanks for your help.

    Now THERE'S a mystery...

According to the NCRS JG, and Noland Adams, AND my '55, the teeth are, from smallest to largest, 3706429/#6, 3706428/#5, 3706427/#4, 3706425/#1, 3706425/#1, 3706425/#1, 3706424/C, and back down (6-5-4-1-1-1-C-1-1-1-4-5-6). No mention of a 3706426/#2. (the 58-60 used 5-4-4-1-C-1-4-4-5) Noland states the #6 was discontinued almost immediately, and GM specified replacing #6 in pairs with #5.Sounds like you have a parts collection, each number change indicates not only size but the angle the tooth sets on the bar. You should be able to get what you need, grille teeth are the earliest repro ever made for these cars. If you want the oval to be perfect, most shops which could replate it properly could weld the holes and crack. My original looks pretty good, except for one small crack, most people don't notice, so I said forget perfect show, I'd rather be comfortable driving the car on the road. Depends on what you want.
