    Midyear lower windshield trim R/R

I've checked the archives, '67 Assembly Instruction Manual and the '67 Shop manual, regarding removal and installation of the lower stainless windshield trim and I'm still stumped.

Over the weekend, I screwed in new lower molding clips to the frame and then installed the original windshield back in with a new weatherstrip. Now... do I need some special tool to reinstall the trim? The usual vendors don't seem to have them. I tried snapping the clip in and out it several times beforehand and it was no problem. It not so after you try to install it with the windshield in. I thought you just aligned the trim on the windshield and just snapped it in. What am I missing here?

The picture in the shop manual looks like the tech is sliding the trim off the clips. Can anyone give me some straight forward suggestions? The car has no paint so that's not a problem, but I want to do a couple test fits with the trim to make sure it looks right after installation. Thanks for any help. Patrick

Wayne, as you know these are U-clips and the lower edge of the molding has to slide into the U. The problem seems to be that the new weatherstrip is pressing down hard on the clips and keeping them from spreading apart when I try to press the trim into it. I can easily insert a flat blade screwdriver into the clip and spread it open, but I need to spread open the clip with the trim.

Should I be tilting the trim upward or downward while snaping it in?

Normally it should just snap in ,when placed there in the same way that it fits the windshield. No contortions needed. I know that you have changed the front end on that car, but unless its not down far enough or trimmed out correctly, I dont see any reason for the defficulty. You might try to spread the clips a little, but be carefull not to over do it.

Thanks Wayne, I spread the clips a little with a screwdriver, put on a little silicone grease, and the trim slowly popped in....with a little help from a rubber mallet. Patrick
