Greetings all...I recently replaced the master cylinder on my 66 non power brake L79 roadster. The master came from what I consider to be a very high quality mid year parts vendor and it went in without a problem. I got a good pedal quickly, topped up the master and went for a ride. During the ride the master puked up fluid from between the cap and the master. This is the craziest thing as the gasket looks good and the retaining clips seem to have plenty of tension. Am I missing something here ? The fluid level was at about one quarter inch below the top before I put the cap on. I have replaced quite a few master cylinders in my day and I have never encountered this before. Anybody have any insight ?????

Same car, same thing. My gasket was bad. It had one of the ears missing, but also I was told that the level you describe is too high. Unfortunately I can't give you a "spec". Mine is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch down now and with the new gasket there are no leaks. Also my MC is a "no name" replacement, so I'm sure it is not the highest quality!
