    62 Center Console Hardware

Four screws hold the center console lid to the hinge. The two sheet metal screws are phillips head. Are the threaded screws phillips or clutch head? I have both in my bag of parts from when I took the car apart and I'm trying to find the right home for the small clutch head screws.

    John,
The screws that hold the trim clips to the door are Phillips head. The two clutch head machine screws attach the hinge to the door only and are located above the Philips. The clutch head screw heads should be painted. This is true for '56, very likely true for '62. Regards,

From my notes from looking at Bowtie cars a few years ago.
"The seat separator lid is attached with, from top to bottom, two (2) Philips, two (2) Clutch-head, then two (2) Philips screws. All screws are Pan head."

Depends partially on where in the model run your car was built. Early 62's, for example, used clutch head screws to retain the copper barrel nuts on the hood pull cables at the female hood latch--later used dished hex head. The same was true with the center console lid (door). I can't tell you the exact time the change was made. The phase-out of clutch heads took place over the years--from clutch heads on the splash pans, in the trunk, etc. on the earlier cars (56-57)--to the point that in the very late 62's--the only places that come to mind are under the horn button to retain the horn button retainer, and for the grab bar brackets and grab bar to the brackets. I know that that is much more than you asked, but I thought I'd share my sum total of knowledge in this world all in one spot!

Jim, Garry, Mike - Thanks for your response. I would add, that at least on my car - an early 62 - the bottom sheet metal screws and the trim clips were painted and the top sheet metal screws and clips were bare.
