Dennis -

No sealer required, but it helps to have both sealing surfaces absolutely clean and smooth, and coat the fat O-ring with petroleum jelly (or soak it in engine oil like the plant did) so it doesn't gall or peel when you install the sending unit.

Hey Dennis - Make sure that the leak isn't coming from a small fracture on the tube. If you didn't use the gas tank sender installation tool, it's easy to create a small crack.
