My 72 with 4-speed transmission has recently developed a noise I can't track down. When the car has been driven for several miles in warm temperatures there is a noise that becomes very noticeable when the clutch pedal is depressed. The car shifts smoothly even when the noise appears and the noise is very low or non-existent when the car is cold. Just had it in to my mechanic and he did some lubrication but on the way home today, about a 30 mile trip, the noise appeared again. The noise sounds like a spring and it seems to occur when the pedal is close to the floor. Any ideas????

Re: 72 Clutch Noise
In the earlier posting I left out some important details that might help in the solution to my clutch noise problem. The car is a 350 -- 200 HP small block. Once the noise starts there is also a "feel" associated with depressing the clutch pedal that, to me, feels like a spring hanging up and then stretching. The noise and "feel" are there even with the engine off and the mechanicals heated up even in the garage with the engine off. This afternoon, I depressed the pedal several times with the engine off. The car had cooled for over 12 hours. There was no sound or "feel" and the pedal moved smoothly.- Top
