    62 distributor

    Is it possible for a 1962 distributor (1110985) to have a legitimate date code of June 10 1960 (0 F 10) ?

    Steve-----

The '985' distributor was even in production as early as 1960. Prototype distributors of this part number may have been manufactured, though, but I really doubt that they would have been banded like PRODUCTION units.

However, the '985' distributor was manufactured for MANY years after 1962 and was a popular over-the-counter item for many years. I expect that yours was manufactured in 1970 or, even, 1980. They were still being manufactured as late as that.

      Correction and Addendum

      Steve---

The word NOT should have been in the first line of my response after the word "was".

Also, does this distributor have a spring loaded oiler cap on the side of the upper housing? PRODUCTION and initial SERVICE units did, but I don't know if later SERVICE units had this feature, or not.

Steve, Really can't say with any authority - seems like a stretch - however, on some #'s I've run across in the past, the distributors are (can be) absolutely the furthest out in left field. I don't have any 340 HP cars to compare. Other posters may come to the "rescue"... Hang in there, Dennis

you didn't specify what the prodution date of the car the distributor came out of was , but the earliest 62 vet was built in the late summer of 61 so if the 6/10/00 dated dist is original to the vet, then the dist was manufactured about one year prior to the build date of the early 62. It is not uncommon for an orig dist to preceed by a year or so the build date of the car, esp if the car in question is a FI vet. as joe noted, the dist could well have been manuf'd in 1970 or 1980. have fun wtih it and don't sweat the details unless its to be judged.regards, mike

dipstick: good to see you're on board tonite. You are an authority, a pillar of the organization, my hero. also unhappy to hear you don't have any 340 hp 62's. if you had been up to speed, you'd have known its less expensive to convert a 250 hp 62 into a 340 hp than a 360 hp . and the 340's usually run better than the 360's. of course, we are all anxious to hear your Nashville FI seminar where I'm sure you'll enlighten us DUMMYS on how the Rochester unit functioned. Can't wait to view the pony show in Nashville. What do you plan to discuss during the seminar? Your good buddy, mikie.

Yes. The spring loaded oiler cap is present.

This unit was on my NOM '63, so a '70 or '80 build date makes more sense.
