    57 washer pump details

I have a 57 with foot-operated washer pump, but no cable from the pump to the wiper motor. Several questions: 1)is anyone making those cables or either of the retainers for the cable sleeve (at the pump and at the wiper motor)--the motor has been changed--it is not a 991. 2)If the above answer is "no", does anyone know the length of the inner cable and the outer sleeve? 3) Am I better off to try and find a complete pump (mine seems to work except for the cable that actuates the wiper motor) 4) Do you have to turn off the wiper motor manually once it is actuated by the washers--or does it somehow cycle itself like the 58-62 system does?
Thanks for helping out a 57 rookie. (the model year of the car, not the age of the owner)

You need to turn off the wiper manually.
Many 50's G.M cars use the same pump haveing the cable you need
Many 55 to 56 Chevy car wiper motors have the same retainer your looking for at the motor
No one I know repro's the cable

        Mike,
The cable retainer at the '56 pump is nothing more than a small metal washer held to the pump housing by a slotted screw. AIM suggests the retainer was later changed to a rectangular piece of metal (with a crossection of a spoon). Would be easy to make. The cable enters into the engine compartment via the hole in the horizontal section of the firewall outboard of the master cylinder. My '56 windshield washer is self canceling. Can't answer rest of your questions. Regards,

          Mike -

My '57 didn't have washers, but the P.V. guide sez "Depression of pump, through a cable, will also cause the wipers to operate until pump pedal is released, at which time they will return to the park position".
