ON A MID YEAR, WHERE EXACTLY IS THE TWO LETTER ID LOCATED ON THE DIFFERENTIAL? DO I NEED TO REMOVE ANY BRACKETS TO FIND IT?

It's on the bottom flat surface of the carrier housing, just forward of where the cover attaches. It's often a light stamping that may require wire brushing to see adequately.

Here's what the markings look like (see pic). They face the ground. As Joe mentioned, I had to clean with a wire brush to see them.

CA is a 3.36 ratio non-positraction for '63 and '64, as evidenced by the date following the code.
