    Tube, oil level question

I have a conflict in my P&A Catalogs for the Tube oil level part number for my 65 327/365. Can some one please tell me the correct Tube number?

      Art-----

The original PRODUCTION upper tube was GM #3860319 as Loren mentioned. That tube was discontinued from SERVICE in October, 1965 and replaced by tube GM #3876784. The latter tube was, in turn, discontinued from SERVICE in July, 1974 and replaced by tube GM #3865664 which remains available to this day. All of these tubes were 9-1/4" long, but there were slight configuration differences. I think that the original tube had the swaged down upper portion whereas the current part does not. There may also have been slight differences in the curvature configuration.

The dip stick for your engine if you have an L-76 or L-84 was a chrome handle unit of GM #3864794. It was discontinued long ago, but I think it is available in reproduction. The original dipstick for other engines was GM #3862730 and it's still available to this day, although there may be slight configuration differences between the current part and originals. These dipsticks have a dimension of 17-13/32" from the seat to the "full" mark and 18-1/8" from the shoulder to the "add" mark.

There's also the lower dipstick tube. That part was originally GM #3837233 and was 8-1/4" long. That part was discontinued in May, 1969 and replaced by GM #3951600 which remains available to this very day. I don't know what the length of this part is at the moment, but length of the lower dipstick tube is irrelevent as far as an accurate dipstick reading is concerned.

        Joe-----

I was confused before, but now I'm even more confused.
My dip stick (which I have)for my L-76 engine is listed as GM # 3864974 and you say it is GM #3864794---which is correct?

Thanks for the Tube numbers and yes 3951600 is in the dealer stock and upper 3865664, can and is, on order from SPO.

        THANKS

          Art----

I transposed the number. The correct number for the dipstick is GM #3864974. The dimensions I provided are correct, though, and it was GM-discontinued well over 20 years ago.
