    C2 driveshaft paint markings

I'm trying to figure out what type of paint markings should be on the driveshaft of my Dec. 6th,1963 built 64 P.G. car. The GM says there should be a stencil but doesn't give the number. Joseph Tripoli's book says there should be green and orange paint, but does not say that the paint makes a ring on the shaft. On page 74 of Nolan Adams' book there is a picture of a 63 with a manual transmission that has a single ring on the shaft, but it's a B&W photo.

Is there anyone who has knowledge of what is correct that can help me out.

    Thanks, Phil

    Re: C2 driveshaft paint markings

My October 64 driveshaft had evidence of two rings, green and orange paint making a ring around the shaft, about 3/4 thick, about 2" apart, about 12" away from the rear differential, pretty much in the center of the shaft, orange ring forward, green back. The colors were lime green and chevy engine orange. The flange on the differential had bright yellow daubs of paint and royal blue daubs of paint, all of the paint was well preserved thanks to a very leaky differential seal! By the way, the halfshafts, both of them, had 1" diameter lime green daubs of paint on the center of them. Hope that helps you!

      Dino,

Thank you so, so much. You made my day. I read the archives, read the Judging Manual, looked thru Nolan Adams book, Joseeph Tripoli's book, and Michael Antonick's book. There is a lot of conflicting information. Nothing compares to knowing what's on an actual surviving car. While my car bears many of the original paint marks, the ones on the driveshafts were gone forever, being as my car spent most of it's life in Kansas City. No where other than in the Judging Manual did I see reference to there being a stencil on the drive shaft. Thanks again for your response. I'm off to look for a small quantity of lime green paint.
