    Clutch problem

I put the engine back in my 63 coup after having it out for an overhaul. I installed a new complete clutch. I now am unable to get the car to go into any gear(4 speed). There is a "rumbling" noise when the clutch pedal is depressed.
I can move through all 4 gears when the engine is not running but once it is running there is no movement at all. Am I looking at pulling the transmission to get to the clutch to check for proper installation or is there something a little easier??
    Thanks for any assistance

    Alan-----

Believe me, I'm afraid that there is "nothing easier" available. You need to get involved in the dreaded "going back in" syndrome. Hardly anything in the world is more depressing or frustrating than that. My guess is that you have the release bearing improperly installed, the fork improperly mated to the release bearing or you have the clutch friction disc in backward.

One other possible problem could be improper flywheel bolts. Regular flywheel bolts have a very thin head to clear the clutch springs. LIke Joe says, looks like the dreaded "redo".

My guess is the clutch disc was flipped and the springs are contacting the flywheel to crank bolts which should be thin-headed as mentioned previously. tear down time at hand. good luck, mike

Thanks for the "bad news" and dread only begins to express my redo.

I agree with Joe. It is very easy to improperly install the release bearing on the clutch fork. If it is protesting with the clutch applied, then likely the release bearing.
