'64 Radiator Date Code - Illegible or Wrong?

The date code on my Sept '63 built '64 radiator does not seem to exaxctly fit the JG form of YYM. The first character looks like a "C", but it is lightly stamped, particularly on the right edge, and could be an incomplete "6" as it is supposed to be. The second character is clearly a "3" which would make one think that the first character really is a light "6". The third chharacter is an upside down "V" (an "A" without the cross stroke?). However, this third character stamp is deep and well defined so it does not seem likely that it is a "A" without the cross. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this specific issue and the general issue of how judges treat date codes that are not completely legible. Does the car get the benefit of the doubt in that "it appears as though it could be" correct? Thanks.

We would have to see it, Scott. Maybe you could post a picture of the stamp.

      Scott,

The top surface of some of the originals where rough and it's very possible the horizontal line of the "A" hit a pot hole and just didn't show up. But since the 63A would be way too early for a sept car I'd say it would get hit for the wrong date any way.

Tom, The top surface where the inverted "V" is located is dead flat and there's not a hint of the cross that would make it an "A" looking through a magnifying glass. Maybe the guy that was stamping that day mis-placed his "A" and thought the upside down "V" was the closest thing. I was a line foreman for GM back then and I saw stranger things than that happen. Any other theories would be much appreciated. The JG specifies a six months prior date for the engine casting, but for radiators simply says, "The date must precede the build date for the car". I'm a little new to this and unclear as to whether or not the six month "rule" applies everywhere unless stated otherwise or the JG should be taken as written. Thanks for your help.
