My '62 was completed 30 days ago and all was going great. Today, it stopped shifting into 3rd. I've checked linkage with no problem and it seems to go from 3rd to 4th with no difficulty. Tranny was rebuilt just prior to 9-11 and due to injury, I just got it installed a month ago. When I try to shift into 3rd, it grinds gears. Both down shifting and up...same thing. Any help is greatly appreciated....Sleepless in Seattle.

Re: C-1 / T-10 / 4-Spd broke
Given your description, Pulling the side cover off and looking inside is likely the best (maybe only) means of finding the problem, after checking to see that the nut holding the 3-4 shift lever is secured properly.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: C-1 / T-10 / 4-Spd broke
Can anyone explain what I'll be looking for when I open side plate on T-10? If syncro is out in 3rd, will it be something I'll notice as I open her up? Also, I noticed that with the car stopped and driveline NOT turning, I can shift into 3rd...as the driveline is turning...won't go into 3rd. Does this make sense? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for inputs so far.- Top

when you say car stopped, do you mean engine stopped also, or engine running?Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: C-1 / T-10 / 4-Spd broke
That would sound like a cracked synchro ring possibly, or even a broken tooth on the gear. You need to have someone familiar with transmission repair looking at it. Removal from the car is likely at this juncture.Bill Clupper #618- Top
