GM casting number 3970010 is a block casting which was used over a number of years from late 1969 through 1980 for most Chevrolet 350 cid engines used in Corvettes, other Chevrolet cars and trucks. It was also used for late 1969 Camaro Z-28 302 cid engines, but, otherwise, it was used exclusively for 350 cid applications. It is a 4.00" bore block with the "large" main bearings used on most small blocks from 1968-onward. These blocks were manufactured in both 2 bolt and 4 bolt main configurations.
If you'll post all the numbers stamped on the machined pad on the block in front of the passenger side cylinder head and the casting date (opposite side of the bellhousing area from the 3970010 casting number), we can probably dope it out for you.
