On a low HP 1959 Fuelie, what is the proper color/finish for the smaller brackets holding the ignition sheilding in place? Not the brackets holding the wiring, but the little ones with threads for the wing nuts, etc. Were they painted the engine color or put on afterwards? Thank you. John

Re: C1 (1959) Fuel Injection Bracket Color
The small brackets that fasten to the Exhaust manifold attaching bolts and serve as brackets to affix the horizontal spark plug ignition shields are silver cad. I don't think there would have been any engine orange overspray but some experts would disagree. mike- Top

A good rule of thumb....
is to look at the AIM book and see if a given part is being installed on the final assy line in St. Louis vs. being an 'existing' component shipped with the engine sub-assy from Flint/Tonawanda. If it's being installed in St. Louis, then odds are VERY good it wasn't present at the engine assy plant to receive Chevy orange when the engine was painted....
This isn't 'universally' true because there are a handful of exceptions (e.g. distributor shield mounting brackets; supplied to the final line in natural stamped steel & quickly 'slapped' with Chevy orange to thwart rust vs. service spare brackets dipped black enamel to fight rust on the inventory shelf) but the general thought pattern will get you to the 'correct' answer MOST of the time!- Top
