    70 LS5 under dash wires ????

    Hello all,

    I have a 1970 ls5 and have 4 wiring questions. Any help is much appreciated.

    1. I removed the right hand glove pouch panel and found a transistor mounted to a heat sink with 3 wires. yellow / blue / green. It is not connected to anything , what is it, & do i need it?

    2. In the same general area the is a flasher can with 2 pink wires on one terminal and purple wire on the other. one of the pink wires is butt spliced to a red wire. Is it just that the flasher circut?

    3. I also have the instrument panel out, there is a 3 wire flat inline connector that is not connected to anything, the colors are Black / yellow / gray. is it for the radio? (There is no radio installed currently.)

    4. In the instrument panel, the seat belt light is missing, does it connect with wires or does it twist lock into the switch board?

    5. OK one more than 4, there is a relay mounted below the panel just above the A/C controls in the center console area. What is it.

    Thanks

    Here goes:

    1) The device that you found behind the right side dash is the "convector" assembly for the stock, original radio. It is an integral part of the radio circuitry and must be installed if a stock-type radio is to be used. There are different units specific to the stock mono radio and the stock stereo radio;

    2) I don't really understand your question, but the flasher assembly for the turn signals is located at the lower right corner behind the right side instrument panel. This flasher should have two pink wires on one terminal of the connector and a purple wire on the other. I don't know what the red wire is; it may have been an "addition";

    3) The three terminal, inline connector with black, yellow, and gray wires going to it is for the radio;

    4) Seat belt light bulb uses a "twist lock" connector;

    5) Relay located under the forward part of the forward console is the windshield wiper relay.

            Joe has given you solid advice! ATTABOY, Joe....

            Sure sounds like (1) prior owners did 'trick' things with the car, and (2) you could really benefit from getting/reading/using the '71 AIM Assembly Instruction Manual. This is available through the NCRS Merchandise Library in Cincy as well as most major Corvette parts catalog houses.

            If you're this far and have these questions, I'll bet they won't be your last 'encounter with the unknown'. Having documentation on how the factory put your vehicle together, what's supposed to go where/how, and knowing the color code ID of the wiring harness components will come in handy in the future....
