'90 automatic shifter knob

newbie here. in the process of thorough clean-up of my '90. haven't picked up a manual yet. wanting to remove the shift boot and indicator panel to clean. my question is: how do you remove the shifter knob? console is completely disassembled and removed. thanks in advance.

If 90 is the same as 89 you pry the little black cap off and look down near the bottom of the hole for a snap ring that retains the knob.
