    C1 Wheel Identification

Are there any marks that distinguish a set of wheels for '58 (i.e. welded vs riveted, stampings, etc)? I have a very late '58 and need to get a set of wheels currently, but I don't think they're correct based on some feedback. I have 4 riveted and 1 welded wheel. Also what are the different styles of welded wheels (i.e. dog bone, dog bones with hole, etc)?

    TIA

all c-1's use the welded wheel. pass. cars use the riveted wheels. im sure someone will chime in and let us know when the dogbone's were used.

Look at swap meets for people that have 55-57 Chevy parts-1956 Chevy's have welded wheels

Wheels varied somewhat over the years. 61-62 were spot-welded only, with no dogbones. Yes, you can find passenger-car wheels that were spot-welded, but many of those have the wrong center. The Corvette wheels had an extra raised concentric ring as the center was stepping down from the "nubs" to the outer portion of the wheel. I've found that 55/56 passenger cars assembled in Atlanta will occasionally have the correct wheel configuration.

Reason welded wheels came to be was that Tubless tires came out in late 55 Corvette ( B.F Goodrich Life-Savers Tubeless Tires)is one, then car in 56 welded, but the 15x51/2 rivitted used a tube ( For Hot Rodding you know)Then in 57 14in. welded wheels on up for chevy.

I have a line on a set that have the dogbones with a hole between them. The spare I have has welds in the dogbones. The weld itself is shaped like a dogbone verses these appear to have an open dogbone. Also can you help me understand "The Corvette wheels had an extra raised concentric ring as the center was stepping down from the "nubs" to the outer portion of the wheel". Can someone look at some pics and tell me if the ones I'm looking at purchasing are correct?

              Thanks,

              Ted

                  Mike,

I looked at the wheels I have and the welded one I believe has the "concentric ring" you describe. It actually recesses back toward the outer rim just past the nubs. This one also has what looks like "welded dogbones" verses the open ones on the wheels I'm looking at. Does any one know if the "concentric ring" was on earlier C1 welded wheels?

                  Thanks,

                  Ted

They were on all C1's but the 15x51/2
