73 Control Valve From Pitman Arm Removal

I have a 1973 Corvette, body off, with a brand new control valve that leaks fluid from the ball stud seal. The manufacture has asked me to return it for replacement. The ball stud is probabably tapered into the pitman arm. I have tried to use a wood block to drive the stud from the pitman to prevent damage to the ball stud, but without success. Any suggestions how tho accomplish this.

    Roger,

There is a tool, called a pitman arm or tie rod end puller, that should work to push the tapered stud from the arm. These tools come in several sizes, and can be "rented" from auto stores like Auto Zone. Generally they charge a deposit for the value of the tool, and return your money when the tool is returned, so the net charge is nothing. I believe you can find a suitable size tool to push the stud out. Be sure to protect the threads, perhaps by putting the nut on the end of the stud loosely.
