Craig I bought one also, about 1976. Like you I have never used it, so it is like new condition. I also later purchased the tools to service my 68 and 70's rear wheel bearings. I am a believer in keeping the disc intact with the spindle.

Re: "There is no problem with them"

A more accurate method is to use a dial indicator to check the end play. I don't recall the specs off hand (search the archives), but I know I did that on the 72 a few years (and very few miles) ago, and it was fine. Much more accurate than the "wiggle" method.

BTW, I've heard many Corvette stories where the bearing didn't make noise until a few miles (or less) before melt down. I wouldn't trust "noise" or "feel" as an indicator unless your local flatbed car hauler is also your brother-in-law.

Jim - I agree completely. GM trued it as an assembly, so do I, but only if it needs it. Besides, the bearing puller lets you remove the bearing with the rotor in place as you mention...Craig

Back about in 1978 I paid a Corvette Garage to service the left rear wheel bearings on my 70. Not even 2K miles later the left rear wheel locked up. This was when I decided to buy the tools required and do them myself. I would of taken the car back to the garage, but it was serviced in Virgina Beach and I had moved to far away to go back.

Eric, I use the bearing tool a lot. It can extend the life of your bearings if used properly. I would be glad to tell you how I use it. Thanks Scott Fogaley@cox.net
