Re: H2O pump revisited 68 BB

OOH BOY!!! She explained that the motor was stamped then all the other stuff, H2O pump would be assembled. Hence leading to a H2o pump date slighty after the motor build date. I have on my engine pad the date of 4 11, she recommended a date after. 4 25 I definily see your view clearly and will call them immediatlly a correct this problem. I did not get to talk to him, his wife thought she could figure it out. If it is wrong--it WILL go back!! jc

Re: H2O pump revisited 68 BB

There were/are cases where Corvette failed some inspection point in final assy, got moved to a repair pit and later than engine assy components were substituted....

But, in NCRS rules, the burden of proof is upon the owner to document these deviations. On the other hand, you'll find some of the Shark JG's (judging guides) specifically state the water pump's casting date is NOT to be checked (hardship of positively reading). So, there is a spectrum of consideration here....

            Chester,

Yes, it was date/assembly stamped as a short block and then moved down the line, but do you really think the line was so slow that a part dated 15 days later had time to 1) get made, then 2) get shipped to the plant, and 3) make it through the parts selection process in the plant before being 4) installed on your motor?

Usually it would take a water pump 1-2 weeks (minimum) to make it from manufacture to motor assembly. Do you really think that your block sat there until the first of May waiting for a silly water pump?

Even if the date isn't judged, I would look for a date 1-3 (maybe 4) months ahead, if possible.

                    How 'bout this?

Have another take, but on exhaust manifolds. A friend took delivery of a 67 427/435, April/May 1967, he decided to put headers, so we took the stock exhaust manifolds off the car, and like a good friend, he willed me those manifolds. Just recently I decided to take a look at the casting dates. Oh, one manifold has a little repair work on it that was done at the factory, this manifold has a 1965 date, the perfect manifold has a Dec 66 date. Proof in the pudding that nothing was thrown away, if repairable. Would be interesting if he kept the car and returned it to stock, and decided to have it judged. Talk about tip toeing through the tulip patch with the judge.
