Since I already know how to drive a manual transmission, can I disconnect this piece of crap and how do I do it? Any help welcome, Sam

Basically, to eliminate the "skip shift", all you need to do is disconnect the skip shift solenoid at the pigtail wire connector. However, the vendors sell a connector cap so that after you disconnect the connector, you can protect and support the connector ends. It comes at a nominal cost and it's worth using.
By the way, the skip shift, transmission mounted solenoid, GM #10140541, currently GM lists for $745.61. I've often wondered how many of these things that GM sells to folks whose solenoid goes bad and who feel a need to replace it?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

On your 90 you should not have to buy anything unless you just want to buy the weather-pack type plugs to keep the dirt and water out. You could just wrap the ends with good weather proof tape and seal out the water and dirt. Later models like my 96 required a resistor in the add-on weather-pack to eliminate a check engine light if the solenoid was disconnected. I do like being able to shift out of first at the lower speed without the 1st to 4th aided selection.- Top
