The last time I had my car judged I was knocked for having red print on the inside of my air cleaner cover. They said they've never seen that before. Is it possible some were printed like this?

Henry...I have a '65 327/350 built in April that has the red print on the inside of the air cleaner top. I too was wondering if this was correct or not.
Maybe there are others out there.

black silk-screen paint is all i've ever seen but i'm more into the rochester fueled midyears. mikeComment

I know that the TIM&JG says black. When I bought my air cleaner from Paragon 3 years ago, I asked them to make sure that the lettering on the cover was black BEFORE I ordered it. What do you think I got--orange! I sent it back to them and they had it re silk screened black.
I asked a lot of questions at the time, but was not able to verify whether the TIM&JG is wrong/incomplete, or if there are any orange lettered covers out there. I spoke to someone who claimed that the lettering was originally done in black, but the gas vapors and heat makes it fade to orange. I suppose this is possible, but just doesn't seem very likely to me. I hope I somewhat answered your question.
