Jack, Bill is quite correct, assuming you are referring to a manual transmission, and your use of the term “bellhousing” would indicate that is your question. 1969 is an unusual year in that the M40 transmission was available with every engine except the L46.
Paint coverage on bellhousings is different with Mark IV engines (more complete coverage) than with small blocks (just a several inch red band around the bellhousing to engine fastener area).
