    '66 interior mirror?

    Hi all,

I have a Cinco de Mayo '66 roadster and I don't think that the interior mirror is right. I've checked the TIM & JG regarding this and it says that there were two mirrors possible, but it only describes one (day-night, stainless steel 8" in length, the words "Guide" and "Glare Proof" and a 1/2" black lever that turns 90 degrees). Mine is about 8" in length, stainless, no date code, but it has a grey day-night lever and a grey plastic trim around it. Could someone describe the second possible mirror for me? And, any ideas on a company to purchase a correct one?

    Thanks,
    rookie rob

The second mirror is a standard mirror - approximately 8 inches by 2 1/2 inches with date code but without the day/night feature.

The gray plastic trim day/night mirror with a gray pastic d/n knob (I would not call it a lever) on the bottom is correct for late 66. At least that is what I've seen and what is on my 66. Prior to the rubber saftey trim there was no rubber around the mirror and the knob was black.

Rob - We're working to update the '66 TIM&JG so it has descriptions for both mirrors available in '66, i.e. the standard mirror and the day/night non-glare mirror. If you have access to an older version of the '66 Judging Manual, both mirrors were described, but some of the wording got left out of the current version and the section is missing the description of the standard mirror. Thanks Jerry. It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one with that mirror.

And the 3rd mirror variant is...

a standard (non-day/night) mirror, WITHOUT a date. This came on the earliest '66 cars. It is a crimped style (mirror body crimped to hold in the glass), it has two rivets on the back side near the swivel, and NO date. The late standard mirror for '66 has a date, no crimped body (glass is glued in), and no rivets on the back near the swivel.
