    93 Lt1

I recently had an independent repair shop in Vancouver, B.C. damage the computer on my '93 LT1 by reconnecting the wiring harness incorrectly, under the dash, while changing the heater core. They ordered and installed a reman computer after a 6 week wait. They weren't aware that the odometer would reset to zero and that you had approx 100 miles to get it reprogrammed. Today a GM dealer tried to reprogram the odometer with his Tech II device and I'd driven too many miles (I was just over the 100). The repair shop has another computer on order.

My question is, is it safe to drive the car while waiting for the replacement computer? The last one took 6 weeks to arrive. Another local Corvette expert told me that someone in GM USA told him that if the computer isn't programmed within 15 or so "starts", no mention of mileage, that the computer will just shut the car down. I'm concerned about getting stranded if I use the car while waiting for the new computer.

Can anyone confirm or deny this claim of the car just not starting at some point?

    Geoff----

For a 93, I believe that the odometer function is stored in the CCM (central control module). This is an underdash computer that is sometimes called the "body computer". It controls many non-engine functions of the car.

The engine is controlled by the ECM which is mounted under the hood, just in front of the left side firewall and forward of the driver.

I am not aware of an inter-relationship between the CCM and the ECM that would prevent the car from starting if the CCM is not programmed within a certain period of time. It's possible that such a function exists, but I'm not aware of it.

Geoff...I'd check the source on "the computer resetting to zero". The mileage chould be stored in the pcm, no matter what other parts of the computer are unhooked. If this was so, there would be a lot of "low" mileage 93s running around.
If this does happen, the odo resets to zero, the dealer should be able to have a GM affiliate, Delphi, reset it to the original mileage.
I'm from Ontario, their is one such place here and I'm sure there are several more across Canada.
      Hope that helps...
