I want to remove my clock for repair. I have been told to remove the glove box assembly for access to the clock. My 1965 Corvette has factory air. Will it be necessary to remove the passenger side air duct assembly or does the glove box assembly come straight out??

Re: 1965 Clock Removal
The glove box will come out with the duct in place, but you may wind up removing it anyway since ther isn't a lot of room for starting the philips head screws into the crossbar below the glovebox door, and gravity is working against you at that point. Besides, as I remember, some of the ducting may be in the way anyhow, but it's been a couple of years since I did it.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 1965 Clock Removal
Chuck,
I just removed my clock a couple weeks ago. It is very easy as is the glove box. Can't help you with the ducts. I am also interested in who to send my clock to. I have heard horror stories about "Clocks By Roger" & "Corvette Instrument Service". I am considering D&M Restoration in S.C. Good Luck.

Re: 1965 Clock Removal
I`m planning on going to the Clock Works in Eagle River, WI. They have NOS movements with warranty. I haven`t heard anything bad about them. They referred me to this site for help in getting my clock out (on an air conditioned car).- Top

Re: 1965 Clock Removal
Both mechanical and quartz clock overhaul kits are available from catalog sources like Long Island at reasonable prices. Consider doing the clock rebuild yourself vs. sending it out IF the condition of the bezel and silk screen on the face are cosmetically acceptable....
Several 'how to' articles have been published in the club's Restorer magazine and if you have the NCRS 'Complete Restorer CD' it's simply a matter of doing a computer search, skim, and dump to printer.- Top

Re: 1965 Clock Removal
Jack,
My clock face is very faded and the bezel black paint is cracked and peeling off. I guess I have no choice but to send it off. I do have another question for you.
My speedometer and tach faces are really nice but this car sat for along time 20+ years. Do I need to have them rebuilt? Are there oils internally that dry up with lack of motion? I am paranoid about sending the speedo to anyone since the odomoter is perfect and the car was parked with 35,000 miles on it. I don't want to get my unit back with an after market odometer in it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: 1965 Clock Removal
Air duct is held in by two or three (that memory again) 5/16 head screws up from the bottom. The only one hard to see is the outboard one near the courtesy light socket, easiest part of the job.Bill Clupper #618- Top
