    C1 (1959) Correct Generator Pulley

    I need some expert assistance please. I have a 1959 low HP 250 HP Fuelie and I am trying to determine if I have the correct generator pulley or not. The JM says it should be 3.625 diameter and Noland Adams' Tech & Restoration Manual says it should be 3.74 diameter. There is also something about it being 1/4 inch from the cooling fan blades. I also know it should be a cast aluminum front bracket.

    1) Can someone tell me the correct P/N of the proper generator for my car?
    2) How many cooling blades should it have?
    3) Is the pulley/fan a 1-piece assembly (riveted) or a 2 piece?
    4) How far should the pulley be from the blades?
    5) What is the correct diameter of the pulley?

    Thank you for your input and assistance. John (#21388)

    John----

    I assume that the first question involves the generator PULLEY part number since your general question is regarding pullies and not generators.

    1) generator pulley was GM #3750545;

    2) the fan had 12 blades;

    3) it was a fan and pulley assembly; NOT seperate fan and pulley;

    4) I don't have this spec, but it's really irrelevant as the unit is designed as an assembly. If you get the right pulley, it will have the correct spacing between fan and pulley;

    5) diameter of the pulley is 3-5/8"; the differences between the OD specs shown in the JG and Noland's book is, for an item like a pulley, de minimis.

      John,
      I belive that if you find 3 5/8 pulley that has a gap between the pulley and the fan, then you probably have found a corvette pulley. I do not know of any other application that has the gap. The space is about 1/4". I belive the only purpose is to compensate for the front mounted motor mount thickness just like the spacer that goes under the harmonic balancer on the end of the crank.If either one of these are incorrect, the belt will not run true off the water pump.
