Does anyone know the lengths of the B/W 3-spd that came in a 1960, versus a Muncie M-21/M-22? Are the lengths the same that one could replace the other with no changes in driveshaft length? Shifter location the same? I am almost positive the bellhousing is the same pattern...right?

Should be a bolt in swap, but you will need to use a yoke for a PG and a 62 trans mount. Check the archives, there was a recent discussion on this topic.
Yes, the 63-70 Muncie, the 57-63 T-10, and 57-70 Saginaw 3 speeds are the same length. The bellhousing bolt patterns are the same for all. 1971-74 Muncies and 74+ T-10s are 3/4" longer, so if you use one of those, then you need to shorten the driveshaft by a commensurate amount. Any Muncie with a GM casting #3978764 extension housing is a 71+ Muncie and falls into the category of the 3/4" longer variety.
Rick,
As stated earlier you only need a mounting plate available from the usual sources (about 3/8" thick) to make up for about a 2" difference front to rear in the tranny mounting point. You'll also need a long 26 or 27 spline (I forget which) yoke, also available from the usual sources. I made up my own shifter mount for a Hurst competion plus from a piece of 1/4" plate. I believe the complete kit for the shifter, and a repro stick is available as well. Not a big job, you'll love the difference.
Regards,
Rick
