    67 Seat Belt Restoration Services

It's time to have my 67 blue seat belts restored. They are dirty and the hardware is rusty and seized up. Ssnake Oyl vs Seat Belt City or anyone else out there? Who's the best?

    Thanks,
    Jace Holt

'Best' is a tough call.... Different guys have different specialty areas. Do you need replacement parts that are missing or so badly weathered they can't be restored properly? Do they have the correct/original belt fabric in stock, in your color or will you get current 'service replacement' fabric (over the years, changes in nylon technology allowed fabric vendors to achieve the same tensile strength rating with thinner material and some savvy/senior judges can detect the difference by simply feeling between finger-thumb...).

So, it's a matter of call & ask. What will you get for how much and what's the turn-around? In a lot of cases, they can only estimate over the phone (not to exceed) until they have your original belt cores actually in-hand to see their condition--what's 'good' to one guy may be 'terrible' to an expert!

Also, ask what they'll do about the fabric/buckle interface. In the mid-late '60 era, it was common practice to simply wrap the fabric through the eye of the buckle/clasp and stitch it home. Later, Federal safety standards would toughen to consider this fabric/metal interface a potential threat to belt fabric integrity (stray 'sharp' edges might cut into the fabric and weaken it over time). The laws changed and it's not possible, today, to make a 'correct' reproduction seat belt since they dip the buckle/clasp end in clear plastic to eliminate any stray sharp edges.

Savvy judges are going to push back the fabric wrap to see if there's modern, safety 'goo' between the belt fabric and the metal--a telltale difference between a correct period original belt and one built according to today's safety mandates....

      Jace,
Charlie at Seatbelt City did a beautiful job on my 61 seat belts. Excellent turn around time(less than 2 weeks), fully explained my options and was able to provide original missing parts which were needed.(specifically original stamped hambones). I was extremely happy with the entire experience.

Seatbelt Sity did my '65 saddle belts and I could not be happier. Charlie is great to deal with and will be getting all my future belt business.

I bought a set of late 66 which I think are the same as 67 from Charlie. My car is a "driver" and had no belts when I got it. He was great on the phone. He invited me to his place to look before I bought, but I'm a little too far away. He saved me a few bucks because I settled for what he calls "drivers", but they sure look good to me. I have not dealt with the other guys, but you should at least talk to Charlie at Seatbelt sity. He had to make mine up and it still only took 2-3 weeks to get them. I recall Snake Oyl had alot longer lead time at the time.

SSnayke oyl is doing a re web on 2 shoulder belts for me now. It's been over a month, and no word. In their defense, I understand that they're very busy, also, the person I delt with was very nice and when I spoke to her about some problems with a quote they had sent, she took care of it immediatly.
            Cheers

I used Charlie at Seatbelt City. Very satisfied. Also a friend of mine got a complete set for his 76 - he was also satisfied although they were not quite as pristine as described. He was not dissatisfied enough to contact Charlie. They are one year only belts and he was happy to get a set. They are in very good condition.

How about a phone # or web address for seatbelt city.
