I'm getting ready to restore the springs on a '53. I would appricate any help on what to do and what not to do. What are the best kits and how do you reband the springs correctly ?

Re: C1 Leaf Springs
if you intend to have the 53 ncrs judged and are hell bent on the bands being as original , then do what i did with my 61 RPO rear springs. I slid the bands off the rubber insulators, dissambled the leafs, cleaned and repainted then put the mess back together using new rubber insulators and sliding the original stainless bands with their unique serrations and unique band holding clips over the new rubbers( i'd rank this job right up there with installing plexigalss in a c-1 hardtop). I could not find banding stainless with serrations or rather crimping marks ---all i could come up with in terms of the stainless band material was that without the crimping marks(ie, perfectly shiney, scar-free material).I did locate some of the clips manufactured and logo'd like the originals(shop since went out of buisness) I do have the banding tool that you may use (no charge) as long as you come to my place in maryland and use it.regards, mike- Top
