    C2: Turn signal problem

In the process of reassembling my '65 convertible. Found that the right side turn signs flash at an appropriate rate, but the left side does not flash. Both left bulbs are lit, but no flash. Any ideas.

    Thanks for your help,

    Mark

My guess would be that one of the bulbs is bad. Check the dash bulb also. One bad bulb and no flash.

Since one side blinks, that says your flasher module is A-OK. Basic electrical routing is to supply power to the lamps directly from the light switch OR insert the flasher module in series with the lamps based on the position of the steering column TS switch.

Since one side works (constant power or 'sliced' power based on TS flasher working) and the other side doesn't blink at all, symptoms point to faulty TS switch and/or wiring in the steering column. Acts like power feed is NOT being switch to/through the flasher module on one side.

Check the black ground wire on the left side.

Mark, There is a black ground wire with a washer-like connector that fits over the top mounting lug on the rear of the light assembly and contacts the speed nut which holds the assembly in place. The connection is clearly shown in the AIM. Over the years it is not unusual for these to become corroded with the results that you are experiencing. I had the same problem with the right hand lights on my 67. It was the first problem I noticed when I acquired the car and I tried all the bulb replacement remedies before I resorted to checking the grounds for the lights.

Check the front bulb and socket on that side. The fact that the turn lights on the rear light up would usually indicate that the ground is good there, but if the front is not working it will stop the flasher.
