    C2 Intake #3890490 Temp Sensor

I picked up this #3890490 intake on EBay for a very decent price. It arrived today. I stripped off the old peripherals such as the heater hose nozzle, t-stat housing and re-tapped all threads. It is a solid, straight if still dirty unit. Cleaning will follow. My question is: Where might I obtain that temp sensor at the front of the manifold? You can see remnants of the old in the pic.

I think you can find one at Autozone for just a couple of bucks.

I located one at a local parts store for $8.00. The manufacturer is Standard Motor Products Inc. of NJ. I have read the thread on C1 sensor calibration problems so will keep a close eye on the temp gauge.

The Standard Automotive Products temp sender TS-6 generally provides acceptable calibration.

That's exactly the one the shop recommended and I bought. The parts books showed it to be GM #01513321 equivalent.

I do not know how far off it is from a correct sensor but as suggested by Joe, it may be adequately functional and accurate. We shall see.

Here is the finished product with a new heater spout and temp sensor. Lots of lacquer thinner scrubbing with steel wool and scraping with brushes and a razor blade but it does look good. That is VHT engine 550F cast aluminum paint.

Save for the embossed lettering, the unit looks pretty much identical to the GM #1513321.

One thing that's interesting is that the sender comes with pre-applied sealant. However, note that the bottom few threads are left exposed. This is, essentially, what I have previously recommended regarding sender sealing. I prefer to seal the lower threads by applying sealer to the manifold lower threads with a q-tip. However, the application of sealer to just the upper portion of the threads on the sender should work equally as well.
