When I checked the timing, I found:
1. The car would run pretty good when the distributor was loosened and rotated counterclockwise until the mark on the harmonic balancer is off the scale and is now showing up at the very top of the harmonic balancer. If I retard the timing to about 4 degrees advanced, the car dies.
2. When the mark on the harmonic balancer is at 0 on the scale, the rotor points to the eight o'clock position on the distributor, when referenced from the centerline of the cap. The rotor basically points to the driver.
Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jerry Nutt
