    Power Steering Control Valve

I am in the process of rebuilding the control valve on my 1965. I am in the process of reassembling and I am confused on the correct direction of a spring next to a ball seat. The parts view in the 63-shop manual shows the spring with the wide surface towards the ball seat. The assembly manual instructions state to install the spring with the small end down. I am assuming (bad thing to do) this means small end towards the ball seat. I would also like to know how tight the ball adjuster nut should be before backing off for the plug to sleeve key.

    Thanks for all the help!!
