    C-2 Tach cable

I'm putting original style distributor on '66. Didn't run Tach while HEI (non-tach drive dist.)was installed. When checking everything, discovered cable on car now has a round cable with a "tab" on end. Aren't GM cables square? My '62 tach cable doesn't look anything like '66's. I did find a Mallory Tach-drive distributor in a box when I purchased car. Also, connector to Tach in dash is octagon, not round. Any suggestion on removal of cable w/o tearing up dash?

both ends 0f a c-2 tach drive cable are 4-sided.They are readily available at your local AC Delco supplier. Its the cable housing that is bieng serviced by numerous dealers and AC delco that isn't too cool on the judging field. good luck, mike

What you currently have is a tach inner cable which was made up from a "one-size-fits-all" long cable using a crimped-on end(s). I don't recommend these unless there is no other way. The INNER cable for 63-67 used to be available under GM #6480367. This was an as-original piece. However, it was recently discontinued and replaced by GM #88959456. I don't know what the configuration of this part is; it may be a "one-size-fits-all" or it may not.

It sounds like your outer cable may have been replaced previously, too. The complete cable assembly, inner and outer, is not available through GM, but it may be available through Delco. I don't know what the configuration is. Dr. Rebuild carries most of the Delco parts and he may be able to advise/supply.

As far as removing the cable from the dash, you will have to first remove the cable grommet. This can be a bear of a job. Once out, though, the cable will slip right out through one of the "slits" in the grommet. A new cable will slide right in. Then, you have to re-install the grommet. This can be a bear, too, but not as bad as removal. Just make sure that you lube the periphery with silicone grease.
