    C-2vin# on frame?

OK you guys, can someone please tell me how to find the vin# on the frame of my '66? Tell me like I'm 3 (ok, maybe 7). I know it's on the driver's side near the rear wheel. But I swear, if it were a snake I'd have died already I've looked so many times!

    thanks in advance,
    rob

Do you have the body off? It's REALLY tough otherwise.

Start just in front of the rear body mount and...

and work forward (DS). The "S" and six numbers may be lightly stamped and they are thin, but, the are pretty big, about 3/8" tall. They can be at about any angle. You may need to clean the surface and perhaps sand lightly. Mine have had about 1/2" clearance between the body and frame and a dentist mirror may be needed. When you think you found it, rub on some talc powder to make it more obvious.

I have about 1/2" clearance as well. The numbers were right at the top of the frame dead center in the wheelwell. They are stamped on the outer edge of the frame towards the outside of the car. My numbers are pretty easy to read. With the wheel off and using a drop light, I could actually see them by sticking my head up in the wheelwell. I could also see them with a mirror but then you are reading them upside down.

Mine (on a 65) are right where Mike's are. You may need to use a soft wire brush to gently clean the area.
